The Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha (MKSSS) has started Mahendra M. Nanavati Institute of LASER Technology and Applications (MMNILTA) in 2016 with the objective of providing training in LASER Technology.
This Institute was established to open new avenues for empowerment of women by imparting Skill Training in LASER Technology.
The Institute provides a industrial LASER machinery set up for LASER applications in the textile, fashion industries and jewellery design. The Institute has its own small production setup for LASER engraved products. It provides LASER machinery for commercial use in the conservation field.
Lasers are used in optical disc drives, laser printers, barcode scanners, DNA sequencing instruments, fiber-optic, semiconducting chip manufacturing (photolithography), and free-space optical communication, laser surgery and skin treatments, cutting and welding materials, military and law enforcement devices for marking targets and measuring range and speed, and in laser lighting displays for entertainment.
The institute has laser machinery set up with a variety of Laser technologies and industrial applications. The institute has good infrastructure which includes two laser equipped laboratories, library, classroom, conference hall and an art gallery.
The Institute provides certificate courses and workshops/trainings in laser technology and applications which mainly include use of laser technology in conservation and restoration of monuments, laser marking and engraving applications .
These workshops/ training will be useful for women to become self-reliant. At the same time it will be a part of a skill development campaign. Training of skilled manpower is required for various applications in Laser Technology, which is a need of the hour. The new technology will be promoted so it can be used on a large scale.
